New Governance Resources Strengthen Sector Support for Inclusive Board Recruitment in Independent Schools

All-in Education and MEGN (Minority Ethnic Governors Network) are proud to have partnered with the Independent Schools Association (ISA) on a significant body of work designed to strengthen how independent schools approach governor recruitment and board development.

Over recent months, this partnership has resulted in the publication of a new suite of governance resources for the sector, including the Inclusive Board Recruitment Guidance, the Inclusive Governor Role Pack, and the Inclusive Outreach Toolkit. Together, these resources provide schools with practical frameworks and tools to support more effective and inclusive approaches to governance recruitment.

This work reflects the growing importance of governance as a strategic leadership priority for schools. Governing boards are increasingly expected to provide strong oversight, informed challenge and broad expertise as schools navigate complex organisational, educational and regulatory responsibilities.

Drawing on All-in Education’s specialist expertise in leadership, governance and organisational inclusion, alongside MEGN’s work to widen access to governance opportunities and support the development of representative leadership structures, this partnership has created practical resources designed to support long-term governance excellence across the sector.

The published resources help schools to:

  • Review current board composition and identify future governance needs

  • Define governor roles with greater clarity and precision

  • Strengthen recruitment processes and broaden candidate outreach

  • Build governing boards with a wider range of professional expertise, experiences and perspectives

  • Develop governance structures equipped to support effective long-term strategic leadership

This collaboration marks an important contribution to the wider conversation around governance development within independent education.

For All-in Education, the project reflects our continued work supporting schools, trusts and education organisations to strengthen leadership practice, governance effectiveness and organisational culture.

For MEGN, it represents an important step in its mission to expand access to governance opportunities and support schools in building stronger pathways into board leadership for future governors.

Johan Jensen, Director of All-in Education and Co-Founder of MEGN, said:

“Strong governance relies on bringing together a breadth of expertise, professional experience and perspective around the table. This partnership has been an opportunity to create practical resources that help schools think strategically about board development and strengthen how they identify and attract future governor talent.”

These resources form part of a wider package of support designed to help schools strengthen governance, board recruitment and leadership practice. Schools interested in accessing the guidance or exploring tailored support are invited to contact All-in Education to find out more.
